Our Lady of Sorrows ~ Fr Ripperger

28:28 Mary isn't co-redemptrix, the church never taught it and St. Louis De Montfort never wrote about it and that's a redflag. If Mary was co-redemotrix St. Louis De Montfort surely would have wrote about it but he didn't, In True Devotion to Mary he calls her mediatrix and secrets of the Rosary he says she advocates and prays for us. I love Our Lady dearly and encourage devotion to Our Lady of Sorrows but she is not co-redemptrix, she is Mediatrix. She was not the Lamb of God, she was not the sacrifice. She plays a very intimate and necessary role in the redemption process though. She conforms you to be fit for redemption or she can advocate and pray for your redemption, she dispenses the grace needed to conform and she "lovingly vanquishes Jesus" - St. Louis De Montfort to win your salvation by favor. Your salvation still strictly comes from the blood of Jesus Christ alone and He was the one that in the end 1) died for you 2) let you into heaven.

What her martyrdom did for us was by her merits she is now our greatest intercessor, and mediator between us and Jesus, far more powerful and with so much more influence that any Saint or Angel. That's why it's called a MARTYRDOM, she had no power over it, Jesus could have stopped it at anytime he wanted and come down from the cross, Jesus could have chosen to forego the incarnation and just come directly down from Heaven ready to be crucified, God could have just chosen to make us all immaculent like Mary or He could have just wiped Adam and Eve clean right after the fall.

Our Lady's efforts were very dear and you should devote yourself to her because it was because her efforts that she has been given this powerful intercessor and Mediatrix.

Read St. Louis De Montfort's writings to supplement your devotion to her.
But co-redemptrix is a heresy.

Gary b gotta love Internet theologians. You're wrong to call a common sensical thing a heresy. Moreover there's more Saints like Alphonsus that would disagree with you plus it's a fallacy to say bc one didn't write an idea that he didn't believe it

That's exactly the thing, it doesn't take a theologian to know this. St. Alphonsus never said it either, in fact St. Alphonsus is who St. Louis De Montfort refences the most and neither did St. Benedict, St. Bridget, St. Dominic or Bl. Alan De La Roche and most importantly the Church never taught it.

Our Lady has been given so many titles but never co-redemptrix. She been called co-mediatrix, the reparatrix, the dispenser of all heavenly gifts etc but not co-redemptrix that is not a Church approved title to invoke her under. She's been described as doing everything and anything necessary to the redemption process, she can dispense all graces at her will, but never the actual redeeming she comes just short of that. Which is why I can see how the co-redemptrix heresy is so convincing given that her role as co-mediatrix is so intimate and powerful, it's almost as if she does infact redeem, but she doesn't that was Jesus Christ alone, redemption only happened when Christ died. She can absolutely secure your salvation by petition but salvation and redemption are not the same thing. Everyone is redeemed but not everyone is saved obviously and unfortunately. This is wheret he confusioon comes from.

Pope Pius IV, council of Trent ex cathedra says Jesus Christ alone redeems. Interestingly this is sess 25 on the topic of Invocations. http://www.thecounciloftrent.com/ch25.htm

Pope Eguene IV council of Florence cantane domino ex cathedra says Jesus Christ alone opened the entrence into Heaven

You're not going to find her called anywhere co-remptrix but you're only going to find them stressing over and over again Jesus Christ alone redeemed the world and if you do dig something up I promise you it originated after Vatican II and/or from a post Vatican II pope then in which case you got bigger probelms and probably hold other heresies like... baptism of desire maybe?

Sorry for being obnoxious I tried to reduce any attemptsof coming of that way by trying not to fill up this post with quotes and links but I could keep going if need be

Pope Pius IV, Council of Trent, Sess. 25, On Invocation, Veneration and Relics of Saints, and on Sacred Images, ex cathedra: “… the saints, who reign with Christ, offer up their prayers to God for men; and that it is good and useful to invoke them suppliantly and, in order to obtain favors from God through His Son **JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD, WHO ALONE IS OUR REDEEMER AND SAVIOR**… And they must also teach that images of Christ, the virgin mother of God and the other saints should be set up and kept… But if anyone should teach or maintain anything contrary to these decrees, let him be anathema.” (Denz. 984)
